Game of Thrones Ascent Open Beta Launch – FTW!

Game of Thrones AscentFor the past 4 or 5 months, I’ve been working with the team at Disruptor Beam and also collaborating with HBO on the launch of open beta for Game of Thrones Ascent, the first ever social game based on HBO’s TV series and George R.R. Martin’s books.

Our beta launch was a ripe opportunity to communicate with key gaming, technology, entertainment and Boston-based media about the game and explain to press (and fans) why it is different from other Facebook games on the market today. After months of planning and prep for our launch, we saw widespread coverage of the game during its launch week, as a result of my efforts.

It was an incredible experience to help promote a game based on a franchise that I absolutely adore and to witness over 100k people who share my passion hop into the game in less than a week’s time span, was amazing. To give you a sense of some of the coverage I was able to secure, below is a summary of just a handful of the best stories that were posted surrounding the game’s open beta launch!

Boston Festival of Indies Games Recognized by Boston Globe Magazine!

The 1st annual Boston Festival of Indie Games was held on September 22, 2012. Co-presented by MIT Game Lab and Boston Indies, the festival was/is a celebration of independent game development in the New England region. Over 2,000 people came out to play some of the coolest games made by extremely talented local developers. Enlightening talks, LARP games, an art exhibit, and more kept attendees engaged beyond the very well attended digital game showcase.

I pitched in on PR efforts surrounding the festival alongside a stellar team of Co-Producers. The entire planning  committee put in countless volunteer hours to make the 1st Festival amazing. And, boy was it! We received tons of local and national press coverage around the event. But, just this past weekend we are extremely proud that Boston FIG was honored by the Boston Globe Magazine being named one of the best ideas/diversions of 2012. Check out the full feature here! And, a snapshot of the print version follows as well.

We’re all looking forward to next year’s event – more details coming soon!

Hank Howie Joins Disruptor Beam, Game of Thrones Ascent Team

Hank Howie is a staple within the games industry here in Massachusetts, being the former President/Co-Founder of Blue Fang Games, as well as Beach Cooler Games. Despite never really working one-on-one with Hank in the past, I feel I know him well based on his appearances in multiple previous panels and sessions from the MIT Enterprise Forum. He is at every event always bringing with him tons of valuable insight and an awesome sense of humor. So, I was thrilled to learn that he was joining Disruptor Beam and that I would be getting the chance to work with him directly. We recently announced his appointment in July, which received some great local and industry coverage (a selection, below).
